Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Jim Higgins

Question:

52 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will accede to a request from the East Mayo Anglers Association to discuss with him the leasing of a stretch of the River Moy. [16237/98]

I have made inquiries about the East Mayo Anglers' Association, and I am advised that the central and north-western boards have met with the association several times, most recently a fortnight ago, to discuss arrangements for angling on two stretches of the River Moy. The proposed arrangement is for the CFB to grant the association a licence for the first stretch and for the north-western board to manage the other, but with a facility for the association's members to fish free of charge on the second stretch for the 1998 season. I understand that a response is awaited from the association on this proposal.
