Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

175 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when payment of ewe premium will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal. [18494/98]

The person named qualified for £5,013.93 under the first advance of the 1998 ewe premium scheme. Due to discrepancies which arose in processing his area aid application he was deemed to have been overpaid £4,219.92 under the 1997 special beef premium and this overpayment was offset against his 1998 ewe premium. Following further examination of his 1997 area aid the amount paid originally under the 1998 ewe premium scheme is now found to be correct and arrangements are being made to pay the amount due within the next two weeks.

Liam Aylward

Question:

176 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will approve the application by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny under the 1998 ten month beef premium scheme in view of the fact that a genuine error was made and subsequently rectified and medical evidence has been submitted in support of his case. [18495/98]

The person concerned submitted an application for ten month special beef premium in respect of 49 animals on 7 May 1998. During the course of an on-farm inspection two of the animals listed on the application were discovered to be female resulting in the exclusion of the applicant from the special beef premium scheme for one year. The producer concerned has appealed this exclusion to the district inspector who is currently reviewing the appeal. Depending on the outcome the person concerned will have the option of having his case independently reviewed by the Headage and Premia Appeals Unit.
