Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

208 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason farmers, who have been in the REP scheme two years or more, must now miss a REP scheme payment in view of the fact that some or part of their lands is commonage and being treated as special areas of conservation in view of the framework policy for the special areas of conservation not being in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18642/98]

Existing participants in REPS can be paid as heretofore until the implementation of the supplementary measure A and commonage framework plans. However, where plans involving commonage have to be amended these must conform to the new arrangements before further payments can be made.

All new applicants with commonage who had not received a letter of acceptance into the scheme on or before 28 July are required to conform to the new arrangements for supplementary measure A.
