Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Bernard Allen

Question:

307 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make the necessary funds available to the Southern Health Board to provide a modern and adequate health centre in the Riverstown and Glanmire area of Cork. [18618/98]

The provision of health centres in the Cork area is, in the first instance, a matter for the Southern Health Board. I am informed by the board that it is seeking a site for the development of a new health centre for the area in question.

I am further advised the Southern Health Board is examining what improvements can be effected in the short-term to the existing health centre.

Financial support from my Department for the development of a new health centre for the area will be considered in 1999 in the context of available capital resources, the competing demands on those resources and the priority which the Southern Health Board attaches to the proposed development.
