Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deportation Orders.

John Gormley

Question:

385 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of deportation orders made under the temporary administrative procedures introduced on 10 December 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18318/98]

To date this year I have signed 230 deportation orders of which 95 are in respect of persons whose cases were dealt with in accordance with the Department's "Procedures for Processing Asylum Claims in Ireland" or the preceding administrative procedures. Of the remainder, 55 orders were in respect of persons dealt with under the Dublin Convention. Deportation orders are not, however, made under these procedures but under the provisions of Article 13 of the Aliens Order, 1946 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 395 of 1946) subject to the restrictions imposed by the Aliens Act, 1935 (No. 14 of 1935).
