Question:

418 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science the total legal costs for his Department in dealing with personal injury claims for each of the years from 1990 to 1997. [18493/98]

Details of the legal costs in respect of Community and Comprehensive schools and some specific second-level matters are currently being compiled in my Department in respect of the years in question and will be forwarded to the Deputy. The total legal costs paid by my Department arising from personal injury claims in other areas for each of the years 1990 to 1997 are as follows:
