420 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if the application by Kilkenny Vocational Educational Committee for funding to allow the management of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to purchase a field for sporting and recreational facilities will be sanctioned in view of the fact that the application has been with his Department for some time now. An application for funding for the purchase of land to provide additional sporting and recreational facilities at the school in question is being considered by my Department.
The question of the acquisition of additional land can only be considered in the context of the capital available for post-primary building purposes generally. In view of the current demand for accommodation the priority for the foreseeable future as far as the second level capital programme is concerned will continue to be the provision of essential classroom accommodation.
