Question:

452 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details of the additional £3 million announced for disadvantaged schools, indicating the schools which will benefit; and the additional activities being supported by this money. [18740/98]

The funding in question is targeted on schools included in the disadvantaged areas scheme and schools included in the breaking the cycle pilot project. Schools which have disadvantaged area status attract a supplementary capitation allocation at a rate of £30 per pupil. Schools included in the breaking the cycle pilot attract the following supports. Urban Dimension of Breaking the Cycle. Grant of up to £3,000 per school for materials/equipment. Grant of up to £4,000 per school for out of school activities, tours etc. Supplementary capitation funding of £30 per pupil by virtue of their inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme.

Rural Dimension of Breaking the Cycle. Grant of £1,000 per school for materials/equipment. Grant of £1,000 per school for suitable local initiatives aimed at combating disadvantage. Supplementary capitation funding of £30 per pupil.

Details of the schools being supported under each of the above measures are being forwarded to the Deputy.
