Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

455 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to review the provisions made in his Department to provide information to Opposition spokespersons during the Dáil Éireann recess periods in view of the difficulty in obtaining basic information in those periods. [18743/98]

My Department operates an information service which is widely availed of and provides access to extensive details concerning the work of the Department. This includes the publication of detailed statistical data and the answering of large volumes of individual queries. In addition to this officials in my Department deal with inquiries from public representatives on a daily basis. At all stages it is intended to provide as helpful a service as possible within the constraints of staffing and other duties.

If the Deputy has suggestions for ways in which this service can be improved I would be pleased to hear from him on the matter.
