Question:

113 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Taoiseach the total legal costs for his Department in dealing with personal injury claims for each of the years from 1990 to 1997. [18479/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 111 and 113 together.

One personal injury claim was made against my Department for the period in question. This was in 1993. The total amount paid was £6,250 of which £5,500 was paid to the claimant and £750 in legal costs.

One further legal cost of £3,682.47 was paid in 1991. This was in respect of the settlement of a claim which arose in 1986.
