Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Skill Shortages.

Pat Carey

Question:

119 Mr. P. Carey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her views on mainstream activities, for example Ballymun's tramlines, Clondalkin's city initiative and the A tramlines as a measure to address the need for the upskilling of the long-term unemployed to fill the skills gap in the labour force. [18391/98]

I attach a great degree of importance to mainstreaming successful outcomes of innovatory projects and, in fact, my Department is centrally involved at present in work to mainstream such outcomes from the employment initiative under which, for example, the two projects referred to by the Deputy were developed.
