Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Austin Currie

Question:

153 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Public Enterprise whether she has received a submission from the Dublin 15 Community Council on the Dublin light rail project; if so, her response to the points made in the submission; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18660/98]

On 22 July 1998 I received an application from CIE, under the Transport (Dublin Light Rail) Act, 1996, for a light railway order in respect of the Tallaght-Abbey Street light rail line. The public inquiry into this application is due to commence on 2 November 1998. Under the Act members of the public can make submissions to me directly in relation to the order. The 18 September 1998 was the final date for receipt of such submissions. I have to consider any submissions made to be before making a decision in relation to the order.

I can confirm that I have received a submission from the Dublin 15 Community Council in relation to the Tallaght-Abbey Street light rail line. It is not my intention to comment on any submission made to me as I have a quasi-judicial role in relation to the order and any remarks by me could be seen to prejudice the public inquiry.
