Vol. 494 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

118 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if persons (details supplied) caring for their daughter who is a stroke victim will be entitled to a grant to have their house re-wired. [19002/98]

A scheme of financial assistance for elderly houseowners towards the cost of house repairs is provided by the health boards under the aegis of my colleague, the Minister for Health and Children.

I understand that the Eastern Health Board has been in touch with the person concerned and will be assessing their needs under the terms of the scheme, known as the housing aid scheme for the elderly. The family will also be assessed for any entitlements they may have under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme.
