Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

100 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps, if any, he will take to reduce the pupil-teacher ratio at second level schools (details supplied). [19881/98]

The current standard pupil teacher ratio at second level is 19 to 1. The question of reducing the pupil teacher ratio must be considered in the context of available resources. The actual PTR in the schools mentioned by the Deputy is 13.7 to 1 and 16.9 to 1 respectively.
