Vol. 495 No. 3

Written Answers. - Student Support Schemes.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

102 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the award of an ESF maintenance grant to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly in view of the hardship caused to the family and the exceptional circumstances in the case. [19903/98]

The reckonable income in the case of the candidate referred to by the Deputy exceeded the income limits prescribed in the European Social Fund-aided maintenance grants scheme for 1998.

However, additional information was recently provided to County Offaly VEC by her father's employer regarding the exceptional nature of an element of his earnings for the year ended 5 April 1998. The VEC has re-assessed the reckonable income and it now comes within the income limits of the scheme to qualify the candidate for a part maintenance grant.
