Vol. 495 No. 3

Written Answers. - Team Aer Lingus.

Richard Bruton

Question:

43 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to the fact that well over 100 people who are employees of Aer Lingus, seconded to TEAM, have opted to remain with the airline; and if she has raised with the airline the question of finding suitable employment for these people, most of whom are within a few years of retirement. [19849/98]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 267 and others which were taken on 30 September 1998. I am now informed by Aer Lingus that having assessed the skills of TEAM employees who have not accepted terms for the transfer of their employment to FLS, job offers in the airline were made to 42 people. These employees, I understand, have accepted the job offers and are now moving to the airline.

In relation to the remaining TEAM employees who number 63, there is still an opportunity to accept the transfer offer to FLS. I would encourage them to seriously consider this option as Aer Lingus advise that the dedicated jobs which were available within the airline have now been allocated. Discussions should now take place with Aer Lingus management to find a resolution.
