93 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the headings under which he proposes to provide funding to the proposed Saorscoil in the docklands; and if mainstream funding will be available for outreach services to schools and the community, for full-time and part-time foundation level activities, for monitoring and other innovative supports as well as conventional full time certificate level courses. My Department is committed to ensuring the provision of opportunities for lifelong learning to meet the needs of young people and adults throughout the system, as part of a continuum ranging from early childhood through to adulthood. The draft master plan produced by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority proposed that the authority would initiate consultation with my Department and other interests with a view to developing further the lifelong learning saol scoil concept in the area. My Department will be happy to progress such discussions.

A new north inner city community college is due to open in September 1999. The college will have a specific remit to provide literacy, adult and community education programmes, PLC courses, and programmes for early school leavers and the unemployed, as well as second level programmes.
