Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Ellis

Question:

130 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his Department will pay a reactor hardship grant to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [20100/98]

The hardship grant scheme is aimed at assisting eligible herdowners whose holdings are restricted and where animals have to be retained and fed during periods of restriction. The eligibility period for the 1997-98 hardship grant was between 1 November 1997 and 30 April 1998. The herd of the person named was depopulated in July 1997 and the holding was de-restricted on 21 November 1997. A hardship grant application was completed by the person named on 3 November 1997. However, as his herd had been depopulated and no animals were being retained, his applicatiion did not meet a fundamental conditon of the hardship grant. The herdowner has been paid reactor and depopulation grants in respect of the depopulation.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

131 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when cattle and sheep headage will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal. [20102/98]

The area aid application of the person named has been fully processed and an overlap with another herdowner has been detected. The area aid unit of my Department will be in contact with the person named with a view to resolving the overlap in the near future.
