Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pesticide Evaluation.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

132 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of scientists employed by his Department evaluating pesticides at the Pesticide Control Service in 1990 before the new workload arose compared to the present, in view of the fact that Ireland has to review products on behalf of the EU and is actively seeking work as rapporteur for new products at an EU level. [20145/98]

The number of scientists employed by my Department in the evaluation of pesticides at the pesticide control service in 1990 was nine. While the numbers today are the same, the composition of the scientific staff has changed reflecting current scientific needs.
