Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Farm Incomes.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

133 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the annual percentage variation in average farm income over each of the past ten years. [20146/98]

Annual estimates of agricultural incomes are provided by two sources namely, the CSO in its estimates of agricultural output, input and income and Teagasc in its national farm survey. The CSO provides an estimate of aggregate farm income. The CSO separately provides data relating to farm numbers, although this information is not available in respect of each of the past ten years. Applying these numbers to aggregate farm income, it is possible to arrive at one estimate of average farm income. A table showing the results of this disaggregation follows. Included also are figures derived from Teagasc's national farm survey. The methodologies and definitions of "income" employed in both estimates are different and lead to differing results.
