Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Michael Creed

Question:

154 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give a progress report on the proposed relocation of his Department's offices from Cork City to west Cork; and the views of the management services unit of his Department regarding this proposed decentralisation. [20341/98]

On 2 June I announced the decision to transfer part of the local office service from Cork City to Clonakilty. This decision was taken following a review of the local office arrangements in Cork whereby all veterinary and livestock services are concentrated in one building in Cork City centre. Given the size of the county it was considered desirable that some of these services for farmers in the south west area of the county should be located in a more central location to facilitate ease of access for personal callers.

The Office of Public Works is in the process of organising the development of suitable office accommodation in the Clonakilty area.
