Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Austin Deasy

Question:

194 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding the acquisition of land for the proposed new Garda station at Kilmacthomas, County Waterford; when he expects work to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20317/98]

The Office of Public Works identified a suitable site and commenced negotiations in relation to its acquisition. Recently, Waterford County Council indicated that it may be possible to acquire a more centrally located site. This option is also currently being examined.

Kilmacthomas is one of a number of new stations on the Garda building programme priority list. It is not possible to say at this stage when construction of the station will commence.
