Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Public Service Pensions.

Liam Aylward

Question:

195 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance the progress, if any, to date on the review of public service pensions parity; and when parity will be restored. [20409/98]

In June 1997, in An Action Programme for the Millennium, the Government undertook to protect public service pensions. On foot of this commitment, it was decided, in November 1997, that public servants who retired before the commencement dates of restructuring pay deals under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work should benefit from those pay deals on a parity basis subject to a minimum adjustment of 3 per cent in their pensions or 2 per cent in the case of those pensioners who had already received an advance payment of 1 per cent.
