Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

243 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Health and Children the position in relation to the provision of a new health centre at Clogerhead, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20459/98]

The provision of a health centre in Clogherhead, County Louth is, in the first instance, a matter for the North-Eastern Health Board. Earlier this year I received a submission from each health board setting out its priorities for funding under the 1998 health centre capital development programme. Grants under this programme were made in accordance with each health board's priorities. The North-Eastern Health Board has proposals to construct a new health centre in Clogherhead but the project did not receive a sufficiently high priority by the board to be considered this year.

I am informed by the board that planning is well advanced for the project and that planning permission has been received. Financial support from my Department for the development of this health centre will be considered in 1999 in the context of available capital resources, the competing demands on those resources and the priority which the North-Eastern Health Board attaches to the proposed development.
