Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Paul McGrath

Question:

299 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the historical and archaeological merits of Uisneach Hill, Killore, County Westmeath; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that lands surrounding this national monument are for sale; if she has considered the possibility of purchasing this valuable asset for the State; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20491/98]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera)

The Hill of Ushneach is of significant archaeological, historical and early literary interest. Dúchas, the Heritage Service of my Department, is currently in the process of negotiating the acquisition of a core archaeological area on the hill.
