Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Question:

371 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 is offered appropriate education facilities according to that child's needs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19923/98]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers.

My Department sanctioned nine hours tuition per week in the 1997-98 school year as an interim measure to assist in the enrolment of this child in his local national school. This tuition is provided on a one to one basis and has continued into the current school year.

My Department's inspectorate are currently investigating a suitable educational placement for this child. I would like to assure the Deputy that every effort will be made to ensure that his educational needs are met, within the context of available resources.
