Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Institute for Advanced Studies.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

399 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of meetings which the board of Celtic Studies held in 1998; when the last meeting took place; when normal monthly meetings will resume; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20089/98]

The School of Celtic Studies was established under the Institute for Advanced Studies (School of Celtic Studies) Establishment Order, 1940, and is one of the three constituent schools of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, which was established under the Institute for Advanced Studies Act, 1940.

Article 5 of the Establishment Order vests the control and management of the School of Celtic Studies in the governing board of the school. Furthermore, the general government of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies is vested in the Council in accordance with section 9 of the Institute for Advanced Studies Act, 1940.

The issue of board meetings is a matter in the first instance for the governing board of the school and in the second instance for the council of the institute, in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions.
