Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Michael Noonan

Question:

403 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the central heating system at a school (details supplied) in County Limerick has not functioned satisfactorily since April 1998; if he will ensure that repairs are carried out as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20113/98]

My Department has requested the board of management at the school referred to by the Deputy to engage an engineer to report on the heating installation at the school and to outline proposals on how the problem can be resolved.

Liam Aylward

Question:

404 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if approval will issue for refurbishment works to a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in view of the fact that plans and costings were forwarded to his Department in August 1998. [20115/98]

Officials from my Department met with the school authorities at the school in question in April 1998. At this meeting the school authorities were advised to submit an application for the refurbishment works to the planning and building unit of my Department for consideration. During a visit to the school in May 1998 I also advised the school authority to make application to my Department. Since then officials from the planning and building unit contacted the school authority to offer assistance in preparing an application.

Plans and costings for refurbishment works at the school were received in my Department in late August and are being considered.
