Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Misuse of Drugs.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

49 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the continued reports (details supplied) that the drug rohypnol is being administered illegally to facilitate rape; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20259/98]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that there is no evidence that rohypnol is being administered illegally to facilitate rape in the State. The newspaper articles referred to by the Deputy concern incidents in the United Kingdom.
