Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Income Levels.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

79 Mr. Deenihan asked the Taoiseach if he will confirm that the average income of Kerry families is more than 75 per cent of the EU average; the basis on which this statistic is calculated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20091/98]

Household income estimates at county level are currently not available. A study on methodology for compiling county income estimates has been undertaken for the Central Statistics Office, CSO, by the Economic and Social Research Institute, ESRI, and is currently being analysed. It is expected that county income estimates for a number of years will be published in mid-1999.

Regional accounts published by the CSO for the years 1991-95 give a measure of the output of each regional authority area using gross value added, GVA, as the indicator. GVA is the measure of the goods and services produced in a region; it is not a measure of the income of a region. These estimates are not available at county level.
