Vol. 496 No. 1

Written Answers. - Private Security Firms.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

138 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to expand on the number of traditional military duties to be allocated to the private security sector; his views on whether the State is being exposed to various risks through not providing effective regulation in this sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22093/98]

Private security firms have been employed to protect former Army barracks which have been evacuated by the Defence Forces and have ceased to be military property. In that regard the securing of non-military State property is not the responsibility of military personnel. There are no plans to expand on the number of traditional military duties to be allocated to the private security sector.
