Vol. 496 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

180 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the funding he has provided to complete the Baldoyle flood relief scheme; when works will commence and be completed on this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22030/98]

This scheme comprises two elements; an advance element — Mayne River outfall — and the main scheme. Fingal County Council's proposals to proceed with construction on the advance element of the scheme were approved in April of this year together with funding of £300,000 approximately. The contract documents are currently being prepared by the local authority for the main scheme. Fingal County Council is obliged to obtain a foreshore licence before construction can commence on the advance element of the scheme, and in this regard, an application was submitted to the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, who have recently issued a draft licence to the council for its consideration. It is expected that construction will commence before the end of the year on the advance section. Construction is scheduled to last six months. It is expected that construction will commence on the main scheme in 1999, with completion scheduled for 2001.
