Vol. 496 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Michael Ferris

Question:

198 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received proposals from St. John the Baptist senior boys school, Cashel, County Tipperary, for a resource teacher; if he will approve this appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21995/98]

The school in question is one of a number of schools which have made application to my Department for the appointment of resource teachers. I can assure the Deputy that I am very conscious of the need to make additional resource teacher posts available to cater for special needs children in integrated settings. I expect to announce significant developments in this regard in the very near future. I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school to which he refers will be fully considered in the context of any such developments.
