Question:199 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science when the Teastas legislation will be brought before Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21996/98]

On 9 June 1998, the Government authorised the drafting of the Education and Training (Qualifications) Bill. Drafting is now continuing in the Office of the Parliamentary Draftsman and the aim is to publish the Bill by the end of the year or early in 1999.
The Bill will set up the appropriate organisational framework to underpin the development of a national framework of qualifications.
