58 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the prosecutions or investigations, if any, taken following the 53 hoax calls to the Irish marine emergency services; and the number of hoax calls made to date in 1998. [21852/98]

It is a matter for the Director of Telecommunications Regulation to determine the nature of any investigation into hoax calls. I understand that one prosecution arose from the hoax calls committed in 1997.

There have been a total of 26 hoax calls to date in 1998.
