Question:

104 Mr. Farrelly asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the average cost of an IDA created job for each of the years from 1995 to 1997; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22088/98]

The cost per job is calculated by IDA Ireland on the basis of expenditure by it on all firms in seven year periods. Only jobs created during and sustained to the end of each seven year period are credited in the calculations.

The cost per job in relation to IDA Ireland created jobs has dropped to one third of what it was ten years ago. Between the years 1995 and 1997, it has continued on a downward trend, as laid out in the table below.
