Vol. 496 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

135 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim is entitled to grant aid for the provision of extra accommodation in his home. [22264/98]

Local authorities administer the improvement works in lieu of local authority housing scheme which enables local authorities to improve or extend privately owned houses occupied or intended to be occupied by an approved applicant for housing as an alternative to the provision of local authority housing. It is a matter for the local authority to determine in individual cases, eligibility under the scheme and the works to be carried out. The approval of the Department is required where the cost of the works proposed exceeds £20,000 in any one case.
