Vol. 496 No. 5

Written Answers. - Wildlife Rangers.

Denis Naughten

Question:

136 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of rangers responsible for bogs appointed by her Department in the past 12 months; when the appointments took place; the cost of these posts; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23265/98]

No additional rangers have been employed by my Department in the past 12 months. However, the Civil Service Commission is currently recruiting permanent rangers to set up a panel from which current vacancies, four as well as vacancies that may arise in the future in the ranger staff can be filled, and temporary rangers, 30, on a three year contract of employment.

These rangers as well as the existing ranger staff will have responsibility for work relating to bogs where bogs come within their areas of operation.
