Vol. 496 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

147 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of cases in each of the past two years heard under the curricular appeal process for additional staffing to cater for particular circumstances at second level; the number of cases approved; and the aggregate resource involved. [23294/98]

The total number of cases which have been considered under the curricular appeal process for additional staffing to cater for particular circumstances at second level in the past two years is not readily available and I cannot justify the allocation of scarce staff resources to its compilation.

However, I can inform the Deputy that approximately 293 wholetime teacher equivalents were allocated to 266 secondary, community and comprehensive schools and 18 vocational education committees as curricular concessions for the 1997-98 school year and approximately 340 wholetime teacher equivalents were allocated to 321 secondary, community and comprehensive schools and 20 vocational education committees as curricular concessions for the 1998-99 school year.
