49 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the discussions, if any, which have taken place with the EU Commission regarding future funding for the early farm retirement scheme; when he will make a definitive statement regarding its continuation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Discussions are ongoing with the European Commission in relation to the continued funding of the early farm retirement scheme for new entrants in 1999. I am confident of a positive outcome.
