Vol. 496 No. 5

Written Answers. - Meat Marketing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

111 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the EU markets in which Irish beef, lamb or pig meat products are not in serious competition with other suppliers, both EU and non-EU; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23354/98]

The primary responsibility for marketing meat and meat products lies with the industry, in conjunction with Bord Bia, which is statutorily charged with the promotion of food products. I am not aware of any EU market where meat products are marketed free of serious competition.
