Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - Physical Education Facilities.

Liam Aylward

Question:

192 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if approval will be issued in respect of a further application for funding for the provision of a school gymnasium for the Christian Brothers secondary school, James Street, Kilkenny, in view of a recent submission to his Department by the board of management. [25071/98]

An application has been received for the provision of a PE hall at Christian Brothers secondary school, James Street, Kilkenny. A further letter was received from the school authority recently regarding this application. As outlined previously, the question of providing physical education facilities at this school can only be considered in the context of the capital available for post-primary building purposes generally. Because of the demand for classroom accommodation in schools throughout the country, I am not in a position at this stage to state when a PE hall will be provided in this particular case.

However, I assure the Deputy that this application will continue to be reviewed in light of available resources and competing priorities.
