Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - Tax Exemption for Artists.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

38 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will give details of representations she has made to the Department of Finance since assuming office in relation to the introduction of new guidelines concerning tax exemption for artists. [24858/98]

The existing guidelines concerning tax exemption for artists were brought into effect in 1995. The scheme is administered by the Revenue Commissioners who seek the advice of the Arts Council as required. If I consider, at a future date, that the current guidelines need to be amended, or new guidelines introduced, then I will raise the matter with the Minister for Finance whose consent is required under section 14 of the Finance Act, 1994
