Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Question:

167 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to increase the number of gardaí assigned to the Dublin 10 area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25322/98]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the local Garda station for the Dublin 10 area is Ballyfermot Garda station and that the current strength of this station at 25 November 1998 is 68 (all ranks).

The Garda authorities have also informed me that the staffing situation in Ballyfermot sub-district will be kept under review and that each time additional personnel become available for allocation the needs of this specific sub-district will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of other Garda sub-districts throughout the country.
