Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - School Transport.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

172 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science if the existing system and level of school bus services and charges will be retained; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25191/98]

The operation of the school transport scheme and the charges payable are subject to reorganisation and review on an ongoing basis.

The school transport review committee report, which dealt with a wide range of transport issues including the existing level of services and charges, is still under consideration within my Department. However, I point out that the recommendations contained in the report, including the matter of introducing new fees and increasing current transport charges, do not necessarily reflect Government policy.
