175 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the amount of capital investment made to each institute of technology and regional college from 1985 to date; the amount of money allocated in 1998 to each institute of technology and regional college for capital building development excluding running costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The following data indicates the level of capital investment made by my Department in each institute of technology and regional technical college from 1985 to date in 1998.

During 1998, my Department gave approval for construction work to commence on the following major projects in the institute of technology sector: Carlow, new library and catering building; Dún Laoghaire, major extension; Tallaght, second phase of development; Waterford, new library and information resource centre.
Furthermore, within the framework of the scientific and technological education investment fund, a number of other projects in the sector are at an early planning stage. The capital allocation in relation to these projects will be determined by my Department when the planning process has reached a more advanced stage.
