Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Computerisation Programmes.

Richard Bruton

Question:

186 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent, if any, to which EU funds are contributing to the schools IT 2000 programme; and the type of element to which these EU funds are devoted within the programme. [25287/98]

The Schools IT 2000 programme, which involves a Government investment of £40 million up to the end of the year 2000, does not receive any direct EU funding. A small amount of EU funding, amounting to £3,200 to date, has been received to support Ireland's involvement in the European Schoolnet Project which involves linking the ScoilNet element of Schools IT 2000 with similar educational networks in the European Union.
