Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - British-Irish Agreement.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

45 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the actions, if any, he has taken to fulfil commitments made under the British-Irish Agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25170/98]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 321 on 20 October 1998, where I set out the actions taken to implement commitments made under the British-Irish Agreement of relevance to my Department.

I would also refer the Deputy to my replies to Questions Nos. 21, 22, 46 and 61 today in which I outlined some further developments in relation to implementation of the human rights provisions of the Agreement. The position is otherwise as set out in my reply of 20 October, other than to note that one further prisoner was granted early release under the Criminal Justice (Release of Prisoners) Act, 1998, on 13 November, bringing the total number of prisoners granted such early release to eight.
