Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Passports for Investment Scheme.

Austin Deasy

Question:

60 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of non-nationals granted Irish passports under the passports for investments scheme; and if he will provide a list of the individuals involved and, where necessary, their family members. [25123/98]

The responsibility for the issue of passports is a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Foreign Affairs. However, I assume that the Deputy is referring to the names of persons who obtained naturalisation linked to investment in the State. I can confirm that a total of 163 persons have been granted naturalisation in this way. Details of all persons naturalised are published in Iris Oifigiúil, in accordance with the requirements of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts. It has been the practice of successive Ministers not to separately identify those naturalised under this scheme, though the names of some have, for particular reasons, come into the public domain.
