Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Value Added Tax.

Michael Ring

Question:

108 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if any lamb slaughter factory has been investigated regarding the payment of flat rate VAT refund on lambs from outside the State; the outcome of these investigations; and the amount of VAT, if any, recovered by the State. [25254/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the following is the position.

Information was received by the Revenue Commissioners earlier this year that there were discrepancies involving the payment of flat rate VAT refund in lambs sourced from outside the State. Subsequently Revenue inspectors investigated a number of meat factories and a significant sum has been recovered in respect of the irregularities. Another company is scheduled to be audited in 1999.
